Read and translate the following text in writing: Customs Regulations on Valuables Valuables can be taken out of the country if they are exhibition goods or if they are accompanied by a special permit issued by the Ministry of Culture. When arriving in Russia travellers must declare all items of value on a Customs form. Travellers should obtain receipts for all high-value items purchased in Russia. Any article having cultural value to the Customs Service, including icons, paintings, military medals and antiques, sculptures, rare books, archaeological finds, historical valuables and archives, must have a certificate indicating that it has no historical or cultural value. It is illegal to remove such items from Russia without this certificate. Certificates will not be granted for the export of articles that are more than 100 years old, no matter the value. These certificates may be obtained from the Russian Ministry of Culture. If the traveller doesn’t have such certificate, the case is considered an attempt to smuggle. Task II. Scan the text above and write down all the sentences containing the Passive forms. Task III. Translate the following sentences with the Passive forms into Russian. 1. To prevent smuggling modern methods and techniques have been developed. 2. A wide range of technology is used by different departments at the Customs. 3. A thorough inspection of stationary vehicles was carried out by the HCV-Mobile last week. 4. The new technology is being used at the security checkpoints now. 5. Airport security has gone through significant changes in recent years. These changes have been driven largely by terrorist activities around the globe. Task IV. Match the synonyms. Vehicle – cargo – drawback – border – security – seizure – aircraft – limitation – Task V. Change the following sentences into Indirect Speech. Start with: “The passenger said…” 1. “All baggage from flight number 790 has already arrived, but my luggage isn’t there”. 2. “My luggage was damaged during unloading”. 3. “My suitcase is damaged”. 4. “The suitcase opened and the things fell out”. 5. “The baggage check has been torn off my suitcase”. Task VI. Open the brackets using the Passive forms. Translate the sentences into Russian. 1. After crossing the Customs border the most intensive flows of heroin, opium and cannabis … to the central and North-Western parts of Russia. 2. Drugs …to Russia through several main directions. 3. The efforts to control illicit drug use within the United States … by federal, state, and local agents. 4.
